nebraska wesleyan names new provost

LINCOLN, Neb. — Nebraska Wesleyan University has named Dr. Judy Muyskens as its new Provost.

Muyskens will begin her appointment on June 15, and will be responsible for leading Nebraska Wesleyan University’s academic affairs and student life programs. She will lead the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, which houses the university’s undergraduate programs, and University College, which includes the master’s degree programs, adult degree completion programs, and the high school honor’s academy. In addition, she will be responsible for student life services including programming, housing, athletics, and career and counseling.

"Judy Muyskens brings to Nebraska Wesleyan exceptional experience as a leader of academic affairs and student life programs,” said Nebraska Wesleyan University President Fred Ohles. “She understands very well our kind of institution, with its deep commitment to the liberal arts and its devotion to nurturing the development of each student as a unique person. Her personal warmth, her intelligence, her consultative style, and her demonstrated ability to get effective results make a wonderful combination of attributes for our next provost. I am delighted that she has accepted my invitation to join our strong, dynamic, experienced leadership team at Nebraska Wesleyan."

Muyskens earned her master’s degree and Ph.D from The Ohio State University in second language acquisition and 20th century French literature. As an undergraduate, she studied at the Sorbonne and received a bachelor’s degree from Central College in Pella, Iowa.

Most recently, Muyskens has served as Vice President for Academic Programs for the Appalachian College Association (ACA), a consortium of 37 private liberal arts colleges in the central Appalachian mountains. Prior to the ACA, Muyskens spent nearly 10 years at Colby-Sawyer College in New Hampshire where she held numerous appointments including Interim Vice President for Enrollment and College Relations, Vice President for Advancement, and Academic Vice President and Dean of Faculty.

Muysken’s teaching experience has included courses in all levels of French language instruction, French civilization, contemporary France, 19th and 20th century French literature, and theory and methods of teaching foreign languages. Her extensive publications include French language instruction texts and literary anthologies.
