wesleyan alumnus to headline annual bosendorfer piano concert

LINCOLN, Neb. — Nebraska Wesleyan University alumnus and Omaha musician Stephen Bouma will be this year’s guest pianist at Nebraska Wesleyan’s annual “Bravo! Bosendorfer” piano concert on Sunday, February 3.

Bouma, Director of Music and Senior Organist at First Central Congregational Church in Omaha, will perform at 3 p.m. at O’Donnell Auditorium, located at 50th Street and Huntington Ave. in Lincoln.

Bouma has performed solo recitals on such series as “Bagels and Bach” and “Holiday in the Court” at the Joslyn Art Museum, “Resonate” and “Music and the Masters” at the University of Nebraska-Omaha, and is a visiting artist at Dana College and First Methodist Church in Omaha.

As a composer, he has placed as high as third in national competitions and has had numerous pieces performed at regional conventions of the American Choral Director’s Association (ACDA). In 2006, the Omaha Symphony Chamber Orchestra premiered a work of his on their “Celebrate Creativity” series. He recently finished a commissioned choral work for the president of the North Central ACDA. In 2001, he and his wife Lyn were named “Outstanding Music Alumnus” at Nebraska Wesleyan.

Nebraska Wesleyan’s annual concert series features a Viennese piano, the Bosendorfer Imperial grand, the largest grand piano made by Bosendorfer and the only one of its size in Nebraska.
