prestigious scholarship sends wesleyan student to bolivia
LINCOLN, Neb. — A Nebraska Wesleyan University senior whose political science courses helped him discover an interest in Bolivia will now have the opportunity to study the country firsthand thanks to a prestigious academic scholarship.
Brandon Davis has been awarded a Rotary Foundation Ambassadorial Scholarship valued up to $23,000. The scholarship will provide the opportunity for Davis to pursue a master’s degree at the Universidad Mayor de San Simon.
The Rotary Foundation Ambassadorial Scholarship is the world’s largest privately funded international scholarship program. Nearly 800 scholarships are awarded each year to students in 70 countries. While abroad, scholarship recipients serve as goodwill ambassadors to the host country and give presentations about their homelands to Rotary clubs and other groups.
“Their mission of furthering peace through cultural exchange and the opportunity to improve the quality of life of the host country through service projects seemed to call out to me,” said Davis, who is currently studying in Argentina.
Davis is no stranger to service. At Nebraska Wesleyan, he is a member of Environmental Action, Student Affairs Senate, student newspaper, Plains Pride, International Relations Organization, President’s Student Advisory Council, and the political science and Spanish academic honoraries. He will graduate in May with majors in political science and Spanish and a minor in sociology. He hopes to eventually work for a non-governmental organization or international agency on the issues of sustainable development and natural resource conservation.
“I feel the experiences and opportunities that I have had at Wesleyan have prepared me for the challenge that lies ahead,” Davis said. |
