wesleyan's nationally-recognized step show competition set for november 30
LINCOLN, Neb. —Nebraska Wesleyan University will host its fifth annual nationally-recognized step show, on Friday, November 30.
Recognized in April 2004 as a “National Student Program of the Year” by the American College Personnel Association, the Wesleyan event will showcase step teams from Lincoln public high schools as well as several fraternity and sorority chapters from around the Midwest. Judges will award prizes based on difficulty, creativity, and precision. Teams will compete for over $2,000 in cash and prizes.
Stepping, in today’s form, evolved from traditions in the black Greek community and incorporates synchronized movements such as stomping, clapping, and strolling.
“X-Clusive,” Nebraska Wesleyan University’s step team will kick off the festivities, which begin at 7 p.m. in O’Donnell Auditorium, located at 50th Street and Huntington Ave. in Lincoln. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. Admission is $10 for adults, $7 for Greek students, and $5 for children ages 12 and under.
The step show is sponsored by M.O.S.A.I.C. (Meeting of Students Addressing Intercultural Concerns), Office of Multicultural Programs and Services, the Wesleyan Entertainment Board, and the Wolf Fund.
