nebraska wesleyan named top producer of fulbright scholarship winners

LINCOLN, Neb. — Nebraska Wesleyan University has been named a national top producer of U.S. Fulbright Scholarship winners.

The rankings — announced October 26 by the Chronicle of Higher Education — put Nebraska Wesleyan University in the top 35 bachelor’s degree institutions in the nation. In 2007, three students won Fulbright awards, more than any other college in the state.

The 2007 Fulbright Scholarship winners are Lindsay Priefert of Lincoln who won a Fulbright to study in Indonesia, Sarah Schaffer of Lincoln who won a Fulbright to study in Chile, and Nicole Green of Omaha who won a Fulbright to study in Germany.

Pomona College in California garnered the most Fulbright scholars in the bachelor’s degree institutions category with 25 winners. Others included in the top rankings are Wellesley College, Wheaton College, St. Olaf College, and Macalester College.

Under the Fulbright program, nearly 1,500 American students in more than 100 different fields of study have been offered grants to study, teach English, and conduct research in over 125 countries throughout the world, beginning this fall.

The rankings mark the third year that Nebraska Wesleyan has been named a top national producer of the prestigious scholarship. In the last 10 years, Nebraska Wesleyan University has had 19 Fulbright Scholarship winners.
