nebraska wesleyan to celebrate inauguration of president frederik ohles

LINCOLN, Neb. —Nebraska Wesleyan University will celebrate the installation of Frederik Ohles as its 16th president on Friday, October 5.

Inauguration festivities will coincide with the university’s annual homecoming weekend under the theme, “Firm Foundation, Boundless Reach.” The installation will begin at 4 p.m. in O’Donnell Auditorium, located at 50th Street and Huntington Ave.

Larry Ruth, Chair of the Nebraska Wesleyan University Board of Governors, will preside over the ceremony and welcome dignitaries, members of the faculty and administration, students, alumni, and nearly 100 delegates from colleges and universities across the country.

Dignitaries who will extend greetings are: Governor Dave Heineman; Bishop Ann B. Sherer, Resident Bishop of the Nebraska Area of the United Methodist Church; Richard Ekman, President of the Council of Independent Colleges; and Stephen Lewis, president of Carleton College, the alma mater of President Ohles. After the investiture, Ohles will deliver his inaugural address.

The installation ceremony will be followed by an outdoor picnic on the Taylor Commons. Other inauguration day activities include a cultural event, Oktoberfest luncheon to celebrate Ohles’ German heritage, and poetry reading by Nebraska State Poet William Kloefkorn. Activities will continue throughout the weekend with a Wesleyan Weekend tailgate party and carnival, athletic events, alumni recognition gala, and a worship service.
