elder gallery to feature architecture, paintings
LINCOLN, Neb. —Elder Gallery’s first exhibit of the new academic year will feature two projects, “Toward the Essential: Three Views” and “Architectural Narratives.”
“Toward the Essential: Three Views,” features the work of three painters. Matthew Ballou approaches a fundamental symbolic form through his representational paintings of brick and shells. Ian Hagarty utilizes cube-like form as the principle shape in his abstract paintings. Alexander Herzog’s minimalist, monochromatic paintings contain only traces of the source image from which they began. Seen together, the works of these three painters represent part of the multitude of avenues being pursued in contemporary painting. This exhibit opens August 21 and will continue through September 27.
“Architectural Narratives” features the work of Rochester, New York, artist Jim Hardy. Hardy’s assemblages are architectural narratives that focus on faith and social issues. He utilizes wood, metal, toys, and electric light.
Hardy recently earned his master’s degree from the Rochester Institute of Technology. He is the founding member of Joy Gallery and is an elementary art teacher in Rochester. Hardy’s exhibit opens August 23 and will continue through September 27.
Elder Gallery is located in the Rogers Center for Fine Arts, located at 50th Street and Huntington Avenue on the Nebraska Wesleyan University campus. Gallery hours are Tuesday-Friday, 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Saturday-Sunday, 1 to 4 p.m. The gallery is closed on Monday. All exhibits are free and open to the public.
