wesleyan earns fourth fulbright scholarship

LINCOLN, Neb.— Nebraska Wesleyan University has once again tied its record for the number of Fulbright scholarships awarded in a year.

This month, recent Wesleyan graduate Tuyet Kieu of Lincoln was awarded the university’s fourth prestigious Fulbright Scholarship this year. In December, Kieu will travel to Malaysia where she will teach English to secondary school students and study language, finance, and international trade.

The Fulbright Scholarship is the United States’ flagship program for international education exchange. Only 800 American students and professors are selected to study abroad and conduct research in a variety of academic fields.

Kieu joins fellow Nebraska Wesleyan Fulbright Scholarship winners Mark Buckner of Lincoln who will study in Germany, Robyn Gonzales of Alliance who will study in Ukraine, and Dr. Rich Patrick, Associate Professor of Business Administration, who will teach management and business courses at Kyiv Taras Shevchenko University in Ukraine.

The honor ties Nebraska Wesleyan’s record of most Fulbright Scholarships awarded in one year — the university was awarded four scholarships in 2004 and four in 2000. Since 2000, Wesleyan has boasted 15 Fulbright winners.

Wesleyan’s most recent winner plans to attend Northwestern University upon her return to pursue a master’s degree and eventually land a career in international investment banking. Kieu is a 2002 graduate of Lincoln High School.
