Wesleyan's Bravo Bosendorfer Concert to feature internationally-known concert pianist
LINCOLN, Neb. — An internationally-known concert pianist and chamber musician will share her talents at Nebraska Wesleyan University’s upcoming “Bravo Bosendorfer” piano concert series.
Pianist Karen Kushner will perform Sunday, April 10 at 3 p.m. in O’Donnell Auditorium, located in the Rogers Center for Fine Arts at 50th Street and Huntington Avenue in Lincoln. Admission is $10 for adults, $7 for senior citizens, and $5 for students.
Since receiving degrees from Northwestern University and The Juilliard School, Kushner has appeared internationally as a piano soloist and chamber player, including performances at Weill Recital Hall, Carnegie Hall, the Chopin Foundation, and the United Nations in New York City. She has performed extensively in Spain, France, Poland, and in the United States.
Kushner is currently a member of the piano faculty at the University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory of Music.
She has toured internationally performing the four-hand piano repertory with the late eminent pianist and harpsichordist, Igor Kipnis as a member of the Kipnis-Kushner Duo. Her two-CD debut recording of the complete Mazurkas of Frederic Chopin for Connoisseur Society was received with the greatest critical acclaim and has been highly recommended by such periodicals as Newsday, the New York Daily News, Fanfare, and Stereophile.
The “Bravo Bosendorfer” piano series is an annual event at Nebraska Wesleyan University. The University’s Bosendorfer Imperial grand piano is the only one of its kind in Nebraska, and one of just 70 such instruments in the United States. The Bosendorfer has 97 keys, compared to the traditional 88 keys, and its larger cabinet and unusual resonance combine to give it a “singing” quality.
