Wesleyan economics professor, students to
host forum on myths and realities of gambling
LINCOLN, Neb. —A Nebraska Wesleyan University
economist will host a gambling forum on Thursday, September 30,
to help voters understand a variety of arguments about gambling’s
effect on the economy.
The event, “Gambling in Nebraska: Myth and
Reality,” will begin at 1 p.m. in Olin B lecture hall on the
Nebraska Wesleyan University campus. Economics professor Loretta
Fairchild will be joined by economics students who will share a
variety of arguments about Nebraska’s upcoming ballot issue
to allow slot machines and casinos in Nebraska. Fairchild will then
share information about the economic realities of gambling and its
impact on the state’s economy.
Fairchild said both sides of the gambling issue
will be presented to further help voters understand the issue.
“Voters should make up their minds on sound
economic information,” said Fairchild. “They need to
understand the actual impact this ballot issue could have.”
Attendees will also have the opportunity to ask
questions of Fairchild and the students.
The event is free and open to the public.
