wesleyan students plan halloween festival
event provides a safe option for children
LINCOLN, Neb. —Nebraska Wesleyan University
students want to help make Halloween a little safer for area children.
Games, a theatre production, and trick-or-treating
are all part of Nebraska Wesleyan’s Second Annual Halloween
Festival scheduled for October 31 from 5 to 8 p.m.
Activities will include coloring, face painting,
games, and trick-or-treating at the campus’ residence halls.
Theatre students will also perform The Sorcerer’s Apprentice,
a free student-directed production about a young magician who —
like many children — tries to use magic to get his chores
done. In the process, he makes mistakes and learns some important
lessons about himself. The production begins at 5 p.m. in the Enid
Miller Theatre, located in the Elder Memorial Speech and Theatre
Center at 51st Street and Huntington Avenue in Lincoln.
The festival, which is free and open to the public,
provides a safe trick-or-treating and Halloween celebration opportunity,
said Kim Muth, associate director of residence life.
“Wesleyan students enjoy having the kids come
trick-or-treating,” said Muth. “It is a break from the
regular faces that they see in the halls.”
Event organizers said they hope to make this year’s festival
another success.
“I envision this event as something that the
campus comes together as one to reach out to the community,”
said organizer and student Bethany Swartz.
Approximately 40 student organizations are assisting
with the Halloween Festival. The event is sponsored by Union Programs,
a student activities organization. Events (except for the play)
will be held in the Story Student Center on the Wesleyan campus,
located one block east of 50th and St. Paul Ave.
