Wesleyan honors north platte man with alumni
music award
LINCOLN, Neb. — A North Platte man has been
honored by his alma mater with the 2003 Music Alumni Award.
Leland Finecy was honored October 3 by Nebraska
Wesleyan University and its music department.
Finecy enrolled as a music major at Nebraska Wesleyan
following his military service during World War II. He graduated
in 1949 and later earned a master’s degree in music administration
from the University of Nebraska – Kearney. He taught for two
years on a fellowship at the University of Colorado – Boulder
while he worked on his doctorate.
He has taught at York public schools, North Platte
Community College and several schools in Colorado. While in Denver,
he was minister of music at Park Hill United Methodist Church. He
hosted radio shows on KFOR in Lincoln and was a staff vocalist for
WOW in Omaha.
Finecy has owned and operated music stores in Alliance
and North Platte, and has been a vocal coach for several years.
He was honored at Nebraska Wesleyan’s
Symphonic Band Concert held during the university’s homecoming
and alumni weekend.
