INTERNATIONAL MARKETING EXPERT TO SPEAK AT NEBRASKA WELSEYAN UNIVERSITY COMMENCEMENT

Lincoln, Neb.— Brenda Bence, founder and managing director of a marketing diagnostics company in Bangkok, Thailand, will be the featured speaker at Nebraska Wesleyan University’s 114th Commencement at 4 p.m., Saturday, May 17.

Bence’s speech, "What Is YOUR Brand?" will motivate graduates to carve out their own individual brand names for themselves that are unique and distinctive in their marketplace no matter what they choose to do in life. During commencement, she will receive an honorary doctoral degree.

A 1983 graduate of Nebraska Wesleyan University, Bence has dedicated her career to international marketing. After earning her MBA from Harvard Graduate School, she worked for Procter & Gamble as the assistant brand manager of Cheer Laundry Detergent and then brand manager of the Laundry Detergent Category. Bence was later employed with Mead Johnson Asia/Pacific as a regional director and vice president of international marketing. She currently heads her own company, BDA International, Ltd., a specialized marketing diagnostics company which provides marketing training and consulting for multinational corporations throughout the world. Her employment has led her across the world and today she speaks French, Polish, German, Mandarin Chinese, and Thai.

In 2001, she was honored with the Bristol-Myers "Excellence in Action" award for her crisis management during her work with the European Foot-and-Mouth Disease crisis.

Two additional honorary doctoral degrees will be presented to Nebraska Wesleyan University alumni. Recipients are Dr. Jack C. Huck, president of Southeast Community College; and Keith Heuermann of Phillips, Neb., owner of B.K. Heuermann Farms which produces BKH Popcorn.

Commencement will begin at 4 p.m. at Pershing Center, located at 226 Centennial Mall South in Lincoln.

A baccalaureate service will be held at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church, located at 50th Street and St. Paul Avenue. Rev. Lauren Ekdahl of Trinity United Methodist Church will deliver the sermon.
