INTERNATIONAL MARKETING EXPERT TO SPEAK AT
NEBRASKA WELSEYAN UNIVERSITY COMMENCEMENT
Lincoln, Neb.— Brenda Bence, founder and managing
director of a marketing diagnostics company in Bangkok, Thailand,
will be the featured speaker at Nebraska Wesleyan University’s
114th Commencement at 4 p.m., Saturday, May 17.
Bence’s speech, "What Is YOUR Brand?"
will motivate graduates to carve out their own individual brand
names for themselves that are unique and distinctive in their marketplace
no matter what they choose to do in life. During commencement, she
will receive an honorary doctoral degree.
A 1983 graduate of Nebraska Wesleyan University,
Bence has dedicated her career to international marketing. After
earning her MBA from Harvard Graduate School, she worked for Procter
& Gamble as the assistant brand manager of Cheer Laundry Detergent
and then brand manager of the Laundry Detergent Category. Bence
was later employed with Mead Johnson Asia/Pacific as a regional
director and vice president of international marketing. She currently
heads her own company, BDA International, Ltd., a specialized marketing
diagnostics company which provides marketing training and consulting
for multinational corporations throughout the world. Her employment
has led her across the world and today she speaks French, Polish,
German, Mandarin Chinese, and Thai.
In 2001, she was honored with the Bristol-Myers
"Excellence in Action" award for her crisis management
during her work with the European Foot-and-Mouth Disease crisis.
Two additional honorary doctoral degrees will be
presented to Nebraska Wesleyan University alumni. Recipients are
Dr. Jack C. Huck, president of Southeast Community College; and
Keith Heuermann of Phillips, Neb., owner of B.K. Heuermann Farms
which produces BKH Popcorn.
Commencement will begin at 4 p.m. at Pershing Center,
located at 226 Centennial Mall South in Lincoln.
A baccalaureate service will be held at 11 a.m.
at First United Methodist Church, located at 50th Street and St.
Paul Avenue. Rev. Lauren Ekdahl of Trinity United Methodist Church
will deliver the sermon.
