WESLEYAN STUDENT WINS NATIONAL GRAND PRIZE — A LUXURY RIDE

Lincoln, Neb.— Most college students would prefer not to drive an old conversion van as their main mode of transportation.

But when Nebraska Wesleyan University student Erica Rasmussen on Friday receives her grand prize — a 1983 Ford Econoline conversion van — she expects all her friends to climb in and enjoy the ride.

Rasmussen won the van in the “Got Used” sweepstakes. Got Used is a used book network that is affiliated with college bookstores across the country. Officials with the company will hand over the keys at a special presentation Friday, April 11, at 11 a.m.

The sophomore will proudly park her vehicle on campus — right outside her residence hall. And the van is sure to grab onlookers’ attention. The van has a custom 1980s paint job — brown with bright orange and yellow stripes.

“It’s not real pretty,” Rasmussen said.

But it’s what is inside that counts. The van comes equipped with a multimedia station including a DVD player, video games, a television, and digital sound system to give it a “movie theater atmosphere.” The van also comes with a GPS system, refrigerator and large couch. It is also equipped with an air horn to grab even more attention when she honks and waves.

Rasmussen said she was standing in line at the Prairie Wolves Bookstore to buy books in January and noticed a poster for a van give-away. “Got Used” was calling for entries for several prizes including the grand prize van to be given away to one national winner.

The Rushville native was notified in March that she was a finalist. The company asked each finalist to produce a video explaining why they deserved the van.

Rasmussen said she will continue to make payments on her purple Dodge Neon.

“I could probably fit my little car into the van,” she said.

The van presentation will begin at 11 a.m. in front of Johnson Hall, located near 52nd Street and Madison Avenue.
