"Bravo Bösendorfer!" Concert
To Feature Leading American Pianist
Lincoln, Neb.— Known as one of the leading
American pianists of her generation, Lori Sims will share her talents
during a "Bravo Bösendorfer!" piano series concert
at Nebraska Wesleyan University on Sunday, April 6.
The performance is scheduled for 3 p.m. in O’Donnell
Auditorium, located in the Rogers Center for Fine Arts, 50th Street
and Huntington Avenue. Tickets are $10 for adults, $7 for senior
citizens and $5 for students, and can be purchased by calling (402)
465-2269.
During her "Bravo Bösendorfer!" concert,
Sims will perform pieces by both Johannes Brahms and Clara Schumann.
In 1998, she won the prize for the best performance of a work by
Brahms at the Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition. It
was at this competition that she earned the first prize gold medal.
Sims has performed throughout America, Europe and
China including engagements with the Cape Town Sinfonia, the Israel
Philharmonic, the Indianapolis Symphony, the Spokane Chamber Orchestra
and the Champaign/Urbana Symphony. She appeared as a recitalist
and masterclass artist at the 2000 and 2002 Gilmore International
Keyboard Festival and her New York debut at Alice Tully Hall in
2000 was critically acclaimed.
Currently, Sims is an associate professor of piano
at Western Michigan University where she also teaches accompanying
and keyboard literature.
During her visit to Lincoln, Sims will conduct a
piano masterclass for Nebraska Wesleyan University piano students.
Nebraska Wesleyan’s Bösendorfer Imperial
grand piano is the only one of its kind in Nebraska, and one of
just 70 such instruments in the United States. The Bösendorfer
has 97 keys, rather than the traditional 88, and its larger cabinet
and unusual resonance combine to give it a "singing" quality.
