TEXAS ARTIST SELECTED FOR WESLEYAN EXHIBITION
Lincoln, Neb.— Texas artist Julia Hitchcock
has been selected as this year’s "Fred Wells 25 Feature
Exhibition" award winner.
Hitchcock’s drawings will be on display March
8 through April 11 in Elder Gallery, located in the Rogers Center
for Fine Arts, 50th Street and Huntington Avenue. The gallery is
open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, and 1 to 4 p.m. on
Saturday and Sunday.
The show is named after the late Fred Wells, a civic
leader who volunteered his services to many Lincoln arts organizations,
including Lincoln and Nebraska Wesleyan Art Councils.
Hitchcock describes her drawings this way: "The
visual becomes a document, a carrier of complex imagery derived
from direct observation of industrial objects and the natural environment.
The tactile inquiry of the drawing experience parallels the events
that take place in the natural world as man aggressively seeks to
alter and contain the environment."
