WESLEYAN STUDENT EARNS INTERNSHIP WITH U.S.
SUPREME COURT
Brenda George Is One Of Two Nationally Selected
For Opportunity
LINCOLN, Neb.—Brenda George is packing her
bags and heading to the U.S. Supreme Court—not to be tried
by the nation’s highest representative of the rule of law.
George, a political science major at Nebraska Wesleyan
University, has earned an internship with the Supreme Court and
will leave in early January for the exciting opportunity.
George discovered the internship opportunity on
the Internet and despite the competitiveness of the position, was
encouraged by friends and family to apply. The application process
included a telephone interview, three letters of recommendation,
resume, candidate statement and an essay on the "Importance
of the American Constitutional System."
"What are you going to lose
unless you try," George said.
The Supreme Court internship is awarded to two college
students nationally. George will be joined by a student from Ohio
State University.
Along with her 40-hour week internship, she will
also participate in the Capitol Hill Internship Program (CHIP),
a Washington, D.C. experience including an internship and coursework.
Students completing the CHIP program come away with a thorough understanding
of how the philosophy and application of United States political
life coincide and supplement one another. The program was founded
by and is governed by the United Methodist College Consortium.
