Nebraska Wesleyan University to Stage True West

LINCOLN, Neb. – Two brothers – who are as different as night and day – will concoct a scheme to write a screen play that is a contemporary “true western.” The scheme begins Friday night when the play True West opens at Nebraska Wesleyan University’s Miller Theater.

The comedy is a biting satire of sibling rivalry, Hollywood dreams and California’s new age philosophy. The show was written by Sam Shepard and is directed by Jack Parkhurst. Four Nebraska Wesleyan students will share the spotlight including Matthew Lukasiewicz of Hastings, Scott Gealy of Lincoln, Kylie Fogland of Grand Island, and Ryan Kathman of Omaha. The audience will have a chance to see the actors who are playing the two brothers in both roles, as the duo is alternating parts for the run of the show.

True West opens Friday, November 1, beginning at 7:30 p.m. in Miller Theater, located in the Elder Memorial Speech and Theatre Center, 51st and Huntington Avenue. Additional performances are scheduled for November 2,3 and November 7-9 at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $10 for adults, $7.50 for youth (age 12-17) and $5 for children under 12. Tickets are available by calling the McDonald Theater Box Office at (402) 465-2384.
