Travel To and From the Fort
Fort Robinson is accessible only by road. Participants arriving from outside of driving distance likely will want to check flight information into Rapid City, South Dakota or Cheyenne, Wyoming. The drive to Fort Robinson from Rapid City can be expected to take roughly 2 hours; the drive from Cheyenne can be expected to take slightly more than 3 hours
Once participant selection is complete, we will provide those who might wish to share the cost of a rental car with contact information for one another. Please note that a weekly car rental from Rapid City can be expected to cost about $250 while weekly car rentals from Cheyenne cost about $450.
Parking at the Fort requires the purchase of a Nebraska State Parks permit, which costs about $25.
Cultural and Recreational Resources
Fort Robinson has a great deal to offer visitors. Horse-back riding, Jeep rides, hiking, fishing and swimming are all available on site. The Nebraska State Historical Society also will provide access to the Fort Robinson Museum throughout the week. Theatrical plays usually run at the fort theatre most evenings of the week.
Some time will be allotted for independent exploration, with the Black Hills, Mount Rushmore, the Crazy Horse Memorial and Scotts Bluff National Monument within driving distance.
