Master of Arts in Historical Studies Application Process

The Master of Arts in Historical Studies provides distinct opportunities to advance the careers of K-12 social studies teachers and aspiring teachers of history.

Admissions Prerequisites

People credentialed in Nebraska to teach U.S. history or social studies are admitted provisionally to the Master of Arts in Historical Studies program on the recommendation of their school district or principal.

Transfer of Credit Policy

  • A maximum of six semester hours of graduate credit with a grade of "B-" or better may be transferred from other institutions, with approval.
  • The transferring institution must be regionally accredited.
  • A student must be currently enrolled at NWU for transfer work to be posted to the academic record.

Apply

To apply to the Master of Arts in Historical Studies program, complete and submit the following:

  1. Complete the online application
  2. Download and print the Master of Arts in Historical Studies Admission Application (PDF) or call to have one mailed:

  3. Provide official transcripts from all previously attended institutions (have transcripts sent directly to address below; transcripts issued to students are not accepted)
  4. Include a letter of support from your current principal or district administrator.
  5. Write a second letter stating your professional goals in attending the program.
