Upper division courses in the Department of Religion and Philosophy have a favorable student–faculty ratio. Small classes allow students to engage in rigorous dialogue with each other and their professors, as they determine their own position on philosophic or religious issues.

| Global Service Learning |
|
In this program, the University Minister, Rev. Pauletta Lehn, works with students in local, national and international service learning projects. Locally, this includes such things as mentoring, working at senior centers and hunger projects. Nationally, it has taken students to Phoenix, North Carolina, Chicago, South Dakota and Columbus, Ohio. Internationally, students have engaged in learning in such places as the Dominican Republic, Tanzania, Russia and Honduras. |

| Harvard Pluralism Project |

The Pluralism Project was developed by Diana Eck at Harvard University with funding from the Lilly Endowment and the Pew Charitable Trusts to study and document the growing religious diversity of the United States. As research affiliates under the direction of Dr. Rita Lester, Nebraska Wesleyan religion majors research religious diversity in Lincoln and contribute to the Pluralism Project Archives, publications and the website. Dr. Lester was awarded Nebraska Wesleyan’s Exemplary Teacher Award in 2002. | |

| Religion and Philosophy Conferences | |

Departmental faculty encourage and assist interested majors and minors in paper preparation, submission, attendance and presentation at undergraduate conferences. Conference experience prepares students for the demands of corporate and legal environments, and provides insight into the types of philosophic conversations that support graduate study. | |

The Mattingly Lecture Series and the Swan Lecture bring distinguished scholars of religion to the campus every year and are an exceptional opportunity for students to make meaningful contacts in the broader academic community. | |
