The Mattingly Lecture Series and the Swan Lecture bring distinguished scholars of religion to the campus every year and are an exceptional opportunity for students to make meaningful contacts in the broader academic community.
The Mattingly Distinguished Visiting Scholar Lecture Series was founded in 1989 to honor Ed Mattingly, the well-loved Professor of Religion and chaplain at Nebraska Wesleyan University.
The lecture series honors the historic and contemporary contributions of the United Methodist Church to the Nebraska Wesleyan University by raising awareness of the University's Christian and United Methodist affiliation and contributing to the enrichment of the University Community and all its faith traditions.
Each year, Nebraska Wesleyan University selects approximately two Mattlingly Visiting Distinguished Scholars based on their religious and/or theological scholarship or their academic and/or personal connections to the origins, history and/or teachings of the United Methodist Church.
