International Business Major

B.A., 51-54 hours

The International Business Major consists of three sections:
  1. International Business - 33 credit hours
  2. International Perspectives - 15-20 credit hours
  3. Senior Internship - 3 hours

Additionally, International business majors are required to complete a minor or major in a foreign language. Students wishing to minor in a language not offered by NWU should consult with their advisor and the chair of the Modern Languages Department in advance to approve a language study plan. This requirement may be waived for non-native speakers of English

International Business majors are also required to engage in an extended study/work abroad experience (12+ credit hours / minimum 3 month internship) as part of their course of study. Courses taken from approved programs abroad may be counted toward major requirements in all sections, with prior permission from the chairs of the Department of Business Administration and Economics and Modern Languages and consultation with the major advisor. Majors should visit the Office of International Education as early as possible to seek out the best opportunity to fit their needs and interests.

  2. INTERNATIONAL PERSPECTIVES
    Students choose between Option A and B. Other relevant courses may be substituted with the approval of the chairs of the Departments of Business Administration and Economics and Modern Languages, and in consultation with their advisor.
    Option A: Global Perspectives -- Regional and General Focus (15 credit hours)

    Option B: Second Modern Language (17-20 credit hours)

  3. SENIOR INTERNSHIP
    Business Administration 297
    The senior internship must be approved by the student's advisor and the coordinator for internships in the Department of Business Administration and Economics. It is the responsibility of the student to seek out an appropriate internship. This internship may be completed as part of an approved study abroad experience. (Prerequisite: Second semester of Junor or Senior standing or prior permission from the student's advisor and the departmental coordinator for business internships.)



Other courses strongly recommended: mathematics and computer science as required for the business administration major. This is especially important for those students who plan to pursue graduate studies in this field.
