News from 2008-2009
Junior Alissa Irions is the English Department's Hudson Scholar for 2009-2010.
Katrina Powell won a $1,000 study abroad scholarship from Sigma Tau Delta, the national English honorary.
Three English majors and one English minor were awarded Fulbright Teaching Assistantships in Europe for 2009-2010: Alicia Dallman will teach in Spain; English minor Andrea Duntz will teach in Germany; Lacey Johnson will also teach in Germany; and Maggie Mitteis will teach in Poland. This brings the English Department's Fulbright tally to six Fulbrights in three years!
The Flintlock, under the editorship of seniors Chelsea Dappen and Bruce Johnson, celebrated its 50th anniversary with a special issue incorporating both new work and selections from the past 50 years.
Alicia Dallman's essay "The Overall Dream" won second prize for Creative Nonfiction at the national conference of Sigma Tau Delta, the English honorary.

Alicia Dallman has been the department's Hudson Scholarship for 2008-2009. In her other major (Spanish), Alicia has also won a national scholarship competition. She is one of three students nationwide to win an Alpha Mu Gamma Scholarship to support her language study.
Chelsea Dappen has been selected to participate in the Bucknell Institute for Younger Poets during the summer of 2008.
Chris Dunker received an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship, recognizing his outstanding performance as a runner and in the classroom.
Katie Segrist was awarded a Fulbright Teaching Assistantship to teach English in Germany.
News from 2006-2007
Nicole Green won a Fulbright Scholarship to teach English in Germany.
English alumna Jessica Rivera published an essay, "Simple Complexity: A Sentence Instruction Study" in the 2006 edition of Young Scholars in Writing: Undergraduate Research in Writing and Rhetoric. The article was a revised version of her 2005 Senior Thesis.
News from 2005-2006
English and Education senior Dan Witte led NWU's co-ed flag football (intramural) team to the national championship in Pensacola, Fla. NWU's team, .44 Caliber Love Letter, ended up second in the tournament after a 40-10 loss to the Tarleton State (TX) Shockers.
