Dr. Schaffer earned his Certification in Journalism at the University of Nebraska in 1983, and his Ph.D. at the University of Virginia in 1990. He has been a member of the NWU faculty since 1990. Dr. Schaffer is the author of several high school textbooks, including Communication Matters and Journalism Matters. Dr. Schaffer teaches courses in both English and Journalism, including News Writing, Feature Writing, and Computer Publishing; he is the faculty advisor for the Reveille, the Bell Book, and the Retrospect.
