Dr. Herndon got her Ph.D. from the University of Texas in 1993. She has been a member of the faculty at NWU since 1993, teaching courses in English, Women's Studies and French. Dr. Herndon specializes in Film Studies, and in the literatures of the African Diasporas. Dr. Herndon is an active member of the African Literature Association, and has attended A.L.A. conferences in Africa and the Caribbean; she has attended seminars on women and development in Costa Rica and Cuba.
