English Department Courses

The English Department offers a wide variety of courses in language, literature, and writing, ranging from The Origins of the English Language to The Chicano Novel. Students in the department's language courses will learn the principles of historical linguistics, sociolinguistics, and rhetorical analysis. Students in the literature courses will learn to analyze literature in terms of its genre, literary influences, cultural context, and formal structure. Students in the writing courses will gain proficiency in writing narrative fiction and non-fiction as well as poetry.
