INTERNSHIPS

All Communication/Communications Studies majors are required to do an internship (Comm 297) during their senior year.  It is also possible to have an internship experience during the junior year (Comm 197)    Internships provide students opportunities to  receive hands on experiences in careers of interest as well as opportunities to “net-work” with people in the field.  For many of our students, the internship experience has been one of the highlights of their college experience—providing them with the chance to see first hand how the theories they have studied in class play out in real-world situations.

Students do internships in a variety of places.  On campus we have had students work with Student Life, Marketing, and Recruitment.  In Lincoln students have worked with nonprofit organizations such as the Children’s Museum and United Way, government related situations such as the Nebraska Unicameral and the Lincoln based offices of U.S. Senators, and for radio and television studios, advertising agencies and retail stores.  Students have also found internships throughout the United States.  In Washington D.C. we have had students at CNN and at the Supreme Court.  Students have found internships connected with the entertainment industry on both coasts.  We have even had students locate internships outside of the U.S.
