Personal Counseling

Nebraska Wesleyan University offers a wide range of short-term educational and psychological services for students. These services often address concerns in the areas of personal development, mental health, cultural issues, life planning, stress management and the achievement of educational goals.

Ulifeline
Ulifeline is a website that provides mental health information to students. Within the website, students may complete an online evaluation for themselves or friends, download information about mental health, and compile information about prescription drugs from the online drug database.

Access to services available on campus are described below. Please call the Career Center (465.2224) for more information.

Eligibility
All currently registered students attending Nebraska Wesleyan University, whether living on or off-campus, may use Personal Counseling Services.

Making Appointments
Counselors are currently on campus part time, three days per week during the academic year. To schedule an appointment, call 465-2224 any time from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

When the phone is answered, indicate that you wish to set up an appointment with a personal counselor and your call will be transferred to a professional staff member, who will make the arrangements. You may also come to the Career Center to set up an appointment. The Career Center is located in the lower level of the Student Center.

Service Fees
Because Nebraska Wesleyan University offers short-term counseling services, during any given academic year, counseling sessions one through five are free of charge. All sessions after that in the same academic year will have a co-pay of $5.00 per visit. The Business Office will bill individuals monthly for costs incurred. Failure to pay the fees may result in a hold on your registration and records.

Missed Appointments
If you cannot keep a scheduled appointment, please call 465-2224 at least one hour prior to cancel or reschedule your appointment. This is a very important courtesy to extend to the counselor and to other students, as we may have a waiting list.

Failure to cancel or reschedule an appointment at least an hour in advance will result in a charge of $30.00 for the appointment time. Again, the Business Office will handle the billing process and failure to pay the fee may result in a hold on your registration and records.

Confidentiality
Strict confidentiality is maintained at all times. No information can be released without formal authorization from the student. All counseling records are kept separate from other university records and are accessible only by Counseling Services staff members. By law, counselors are required to report suspected child abuse or situations indicating imminent danger to self or others, and confidentiality may therefore need to be broken in these situations.

Emergencies
For after-hour emergencies, please contact the Community Mental Health Center of Lancaster County: 441-7940.
