Sororities | Fraternities | Greek Q&A
How does Nebraska Wesleyan support the Greek system?
Fraternities and sororities are an integral part of the total student life program at Nebraska Wesleyan. The University is dedicated to supporting the Greek system because it believes the Greek experience has a distinctive and useful mission that provides unique benefits to the campus community and its students.
In its Statement of Relationship between the University and Fraternities and Sororities (revised fall 2002) Nebraska Wesleyan outlines several services or benefits that it offers affiliated Greek organizations. The University provides human resources, services, facilities, equipment and recognition, including:
- an administrative staff advisor for Interfraternity and Panhellenic councils and Order of Omega, as well as organizational consultation and leadership development for the chapters, etc.
- assistance with mailing lists for recruitment
and alumni contacts, grade reports, computing services,
business affairs consultation, programming resources, etc.
- recognition with other student organizations
in various campus publications and student directories and
through the New Student Orientation program, representation
in University governance and planning and policy development,
support for the self-governance principle for all fraternities
and sororities, etc.
What are the responsibilities of the Greek chapters in maintaining their good standing?
The Relationship Statement outlines several
expectations for all affiliated fraternities and sororities.
For example, Greek chapters must abide by Panhellenic, Interfraternity
Council and University policies, comply with minimum standards
by which they may be considered approved University Housing,
and be actively responsible and accountable for managing the
house, its finances, activities, and for promoting the positive
aspects of Greek membership.
Who is eligible to live in Greek housing?
Nebraska Wesleyan's Greek houses are considered
approved on-campus housing alternatives for students in their
third through sixth semesters who are members of sororities
or fraternities. Students beyond their sixth semester may
also continue to reside in either Greek facilities or residence
halls.
