Outreach Opportunities

Share Your Gifts!

This is the time to explore and grow your gifts. There are diverse and numerous opportunites for sharing your gifts and for developing as a leader as you explore your journey of faith.

Servant Leadership Development

Interested in becoming a part of the University Ministries team?  There are semester-long intern possibilities in flexible ministry fields. Internships also include opportunities at national conferences and workshops.

Below are some opportunities to serve the NWU community through spiritual & pastoral counseling, vocational discernment counseling, fall & spring retreats, revival stations, and campus discussions.

Give Me Your Hand Service Learning Trip

This collaborative experience to New York will offer participants an opportunity to strengthen their global citizenship through service-learning projects, community building activities, daily group processing, and a plan to integrate learning back into our local community upon return through a service project, presentation at the Spring Peace Meal, and reflections in local publications. More information coming next semester.  If you have any questions, stop by the University Ministries Office in Old Main 105.

Global Service Learning

Join in monthly local service learning opportunities hosted by Global Service Learning and University Ministries.

Guidance to Success Tutoring Program

This is a wonderful opportunity to reach out to local middle and high school students in disadvantaged situations around our community.  The group meets at First United Methodist Church (across the street from campus) every Monday night from 6:30-8 pm.  If interested, please contact Jenna Rhodes or Sarah Hotovy.

Global Justice Volunteers

Anyone between the age of 18-30 who would like to have a short term experience living and learning alongside people whose lives are shaped by justice work.  Choosing to be a global justice volunteer provides you the opportunity to challenge the false gods of our times: egocentrism; exploitation of the Earth; materialism; race, class, gender privilage; militarism, and media's sale of news as a commodity.

Mission Intern Program

If you are a 20-30 year old looking for leadership development and social justice opportunities, the mission intern program is for you.  The three-year program is divided into 16-month international work/study assignment and a 16-month action/education assignment in one own's country.  It is an opportunity for young people to hear the prophetic voice of communities and individuals around the world who are working for systemic change.

US-2 Program

This leadership development experience for 20-30 year olds is through the peace with justice missions for young adults branch of GBGM.  This two-year opportunity to serve in the United States encourages its participants to deepen their faith while learning from  and serving with community based organizations.  US-2's will boldly reexamine their role and participation in society as they struggle with issues such as hunger, homelessness, children at risk, racism, and inadequate health care.
