Student Insurance Policy
Nebraska Wesleyan University requires that all full-time undergraduate students in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences carry health insurance. The University offers a 12-month accident and health insurance plan at a cost set annually. All students will be automatically enrolled and billed for this plan on their August tuition bill. Students insured through an existing policy may waive the Nebraska WesleyanUniversity plan by documenting existing coverage. Students who waive coverage will receive a credit on their tuition bill for the full amount of Wesleyan’s insurance plan. The Wesleyan plan may also serve as an effective supplementary policy to help with deductibles, co-insurance, and prescription costs not covered by a primary insurance plan, but it is important to check with one’s primary insurer to verify that the primary coverage is not affected by the NWU policy.
Nebraska Wesleyan provides a basic accident benefit for the nine-month academic year that provides up to $1,000 for expenses relating to an accident occurring on or off campus at no cost to all full-time undergraduate students in CLAS.
Student athletes who use the Nebraska Wesleyan University accident and health insurance plan as their primary insurance must understand that it does not meet the primary insurance coverage requirements for intercollegiate athletics. These requirements can be met by documenting existing coverage or through the purchase of a short-term plan that covers the athlete’s season.
Questions regarding insurance may be directed to the Office of Student Life or the Student Health Center.
