Interviews

  • CollegeGrad.com/intv

As you approach graduation, the Center can help you write your résumé and cover letter, as well as prepare you for successful job interviews.

Résumés

The best résumés are clear and to the point, but also distinctive. They cover your basics, but also show how you stand out from other candidates.

  • Monster.com gives great advice to people crafting their résumés.

Cover letters

Many new job seekers make the mistake of using the same cover letter over and over again. You don’t like getting form letters, and neither do they. Cover letters must be customized for each employer. (And no, changing the address at the top doesn’t count.) Tailoring your message shows that you took the time and initiative to research a company before deciding to apply.

Not sure where to start? CareerLab.com will teach you how to market yourself by writing winning résumés cover letters. They offer hundreds of sample letters you can review.

Schedule an appointment to bring your resume and cover letter into the Career & Counseling Center for a free critique.

Interviews

Preparation is the key to successful interviewing.

  • Practice talking about your strengths.
  • Know the employer’s needs.
  • Dress and behave like a professional.

Collegegrad.com/intv provides excellent interviewing advice you should review so you will be prepared for anything a recruiter throws at you—on campus, at job fairs, and at company offices.

But nothing online can replace person-to-person practice.

Schedule an appointment to arrange a mock interview with a Career Counselor.
