Application Process

To be considered for admission to a Post Masters Certificate in Nursing program, students must meet all general eligibility requirements of the University. Applicants must also meet the following specific admissions requirements of the Department of Nursing:

  1. Applicant must possess baccalaureate and masters nursing degrees from a program accredited by the National League for Nursing (NLN) or Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE)
  2. Applicant must possess a current R.N. license*
  3. Applicant's cumulative undergraduate and graduate grade point averages must be 3.0 or better (on a 4.0 scale)
  4. Applicant must have completed previous graduate work in research, transcultural healthcare, concepts and theories in nursing, and critical/current issues in nursing (courses must be approved by the Nursing Department)
  5. Applicant must have current nursing experience appropriate for the certificate program
  6. Applicant must agree to and receive satisfactory results from a criminal background check

Apply

To apply to the Post Masters Certificate program, complete and/or submit the following:

  1. Graduate Admission Application form* (view and print)
  2. Official transcripts from all previously attended institutions
  3. Master of Science in Nursing Admission Application form, checking appropriate certificate box* (view and print)
  4. Personal Educational Goals Statement page*
  5. Two letters of support (view and print) verifying academic and professional abilities. It is suggested that one letter of support be written by a professor with whom you have taken a course and one by a health care provider, preferably a nurse, who is familiar with your professional experience. Full-time members of the NWU Department of Nursing are part of the Admissions Committee and therefore are unable to write letters of support.
  6. Release of Information form (view and print)

*The Graduate Admission Application form, the Master of Science in Nursing Admissions Application, the photocopy of your nursing license, and the Personal Goals Statement page should be sent together to the Wesleyan Advantage Office.

2006 Application Timeline

  • June 7: All application materials due to NWU
  • July 11: NWU mails acceptance letters
  • July 21: Students must notify NWU that he/she accepts position in Post Masters Certificate program on or before this date
