The 2008 Palestinian film Slingshot Hip Hop will be shown in Olin A Lecture Hall. In this film, viewers will meet DAM, a hip hop group led by Tamer Nafas; three young women who perform to a rousing applause but objection from family members and neighbors; and PR, an emerging trio from Gaza. They see rap as a way to channel anger. The camera observes them composing and performing, going to gigs, and walking the streets of Tel Aviv and Gaza. Israel's military presence is extensive.
All films are free and open to the public and will be shown with English subtitles. A discussion session will follow each film. For more information, contact Sara Jane Dietzman at 402.465.7550.
