This turn-of-the-20th-century classic by Anton Chekhov tells the beautiful story of family conflict, wasted opportunity, unrequited love, and societal unrest. Uncle Vanya is widely considered to be Chekhov’s greatest achievement in dramatic writing and a masterpiece of modern drama. It is considered one of the most poignant evocations of thwarted desire ever written. Vanya is literally haunted by the man he might have been.
