Erin Powell (Jr., Beaver City, Neb., Southern Valley High School) is the second student-athlete from Nebraska Wesleyan in less than a week to be named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America® Team as selected by CoSIDA.
Powell, who competes in the long jump, triple jump and sprints for the Prairie Wolves, was named to the College Division First Team for women’s track and cross country with a 3.98 GPA in accounting. She was one of just two women selected from the state of Nebraska.
Last month, Powell anchored NWU’s 4x100-meter relay, which ran a season-best 47.85 at the 2005 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships. In addition, she won the long jump at the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Championships with an automatic qualifying mark of 19-4 and was named the league’s female Athlete of the Year for the outdoor season, an award she also won in 2004 and shared during the 2004 indoor season.
In her first three years with the team, Powell has earned four All-America honors and eight GPAC titles. With a full year remaining, she is already a 22-time career All-Conference performer.
Nebraska Wesleyan University ranks among the all-time leaders in the entire nation, regardless of division (NCAA I, II, III and NAIA), with 57 student-athletes, who have won a total of 87 Academic All-America awards between them.
