Nebraska Wesleyan University junior Jackie Spelts is this week’s Hauff Mid-America Sports/GPAC Women’s Indoor Track Athlete-of-the-Week for her performances during the week of Feb. 2-8.
Spelts (Burwell, Neb.) ran a time of 17:19.57 in the 5,000-meter run to set a new school record in the event. She placed fifth at the Nebraska Frank Sevigne Invitational competing against runners from NCAA Division I and II schools. She placed behind two unattached runners and a runner from Colorado State and UTEP.
Her time in the 5,000 is now the third fastest time in all of NCAA Division III this season. The time broke the NWU school record by 15 seconds and is thought to be the fastest time ever recorded by a GPAC athlete.
This is the second time this season that Spelts has been named the GPAC Track Athlete-of-the-Week.
The Nebraska Wesleyan track teams will travel to Storm Lake, Iowa this Saturday (Feb. 14) to take part in the Buena Vista Dennis Young Classic.
