Brichacek Is All-American in Hammer Throw

Nebraska Wesleyan University senior Amanda Brichacek became the first NWU woman to become an All-American this season as she placed third in the women’s hammer throw to earn NCAA III All-America honors at the 2011 NCAA III Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Friday (May 27) in Delaware, Ohio.

Amanda BrichacekBrichacek (Schuyler, Neb.) had a toss of 190-0 in the hammer throw to place third in the event and earn her fourth career All-American honor. Holly Ozanich from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh won the event for the second straight year with a throw of 200-00.

Brichacek, a graduate of Schuyler Central H.S., already held the school record in the event, but improved her mark by nearly six feet with the career-best throw of 190-0. The previous school record was 184-6.

She placed seventh in the women’s hammer throw at the 2010 NCAA III Championships. During the indoor season Brichacek was fifth in the women’s shot put and seventh in the women’s weight throw to earn All-American honors in both events at the 2011 NCAA III Indoor Championships.

Brichacek will also compete in the women’s shot put on Friday (May 27) at 7 p.m.
