The Nebraska Wesleyan women’s tennis team had the doubles team of Erica Dickmeyer and Katherine Ternent reach the finals of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Central-West Region tournament championship this past weekend (Sept. 21-23) in Maize, Kansas.
Dickmeyer, a senior from Fremont, and Ternent, a freshman from Omaha, won their first three matches of the tournament to reach the finals. The NWU duo defeated teams from Missouri Valley, Baker and Bethel College en route to the finals.
In the finals, the two Prairie Wolves faced off with the top seeded doubles team from Evangel University. The Evangal duo defeated Dickmeyer/Ternent, 8-3, to earn a trip to the ITA NAIA National Championships in Mobile, Alabama held in October.
The doubles tandem of Dickmeyer/Ternent were the first Prairie Wolves tennis players to ever reach the championships at the ITA NAIA Regional Tournament. They entered play as the No. 3 seed at the ITA Tournament.
Dickmeyer, a Fremont H.S. graduate, enters her senior season as a three-time All-GPAC performer. Ternent, from Millard North H.S., is in her first year with the Prairie Wolves.
Nebraska Wesleyan has qualified for the NAIA National Tournament in five of the last six seasons in women’s tennis.
