The Nebraska Wesleyan women's tennis team lost its final GPAC match of the season with a 5-4 decision to the University of Sioux Falls on Sunday afternoon (Apr. 27) in Fremont, Neb. The loss drops NWU to 7-1 in the conference.
The Prairie Wolves become co-champions of the GPAC with Dordt College who also finished 7-1 on the season.
NWU was a perfect 7-0 heading into the match with the Cougars. The Prairie Wolves had defeated co-champion Dordt, 5-4, on Saturday in Lincoln then defeated Briar Cliff University, 5-1, in a match that was called due to rain.
USF took two out of three doubles matches with scores of 9-8 and 9-7 to edge the Prairie Wolves. Both NWU and USF won three singles matches to make the final score 5-4.
Nebraska Wesleyan now will compete in the NAIA Region III Tournament on Friday (May 2) in Fremont, Neb. The four-team Regional tournament will determine the qualifier for the NAIA National Championships.
