Women's Tennis Splits Home Opening Matches

The Nebraska Wesleyan women's tennis team opened the home portion of their schedule on Saturday (Feb. 21) with a pair very highly contested matches. The Prairie Wolves defeated William Jewell College, 5-4, to open the day then lost a 5-4 match to Bethany College (Kan.).

The Prairie Wolves now have an overall record of 1-2 to open the 2009 season.

In the win over William Jewell, the Prairie Wolves picked up three singles' wins and two double victories. Mikaela Caudill, Sarah Howe and Becca Brown all won their singles matches at the No. 4-6 spots for NWU. Chelsea Henslee and Sarah Howe won at No. 2 doubles, 8-2, and Lexie Zoucha and Becca Brown also won 8-2 at No. 3 doubles.

In the loss against Bethany, the Prairie Wolves had two doubles wins and two singles victories. Mikayla Albin and Caudill won 8-4 at No. 1 doubles, and Henslee and Howe were 8-4 winners at No. 2 doubles.

In singles, Henslee defeated Beth Prier, 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2 singles and Caudill defeated Aimee Harrell at No. 4 singles.

The next action for the NWU women will be on March 7 when they host the University of Nebraska-Kearney.
