Women's Soccer Finishes in a Thrilling 2-2 (2OT) Tie at Buena Vista

September 5, 2012

Nebraska Wesleyan and Buena Vista University both scored two first half goals but neither team would score again over the next 65 minutes as the Prairie Wolves and Beavers played to a 2-2 tie after double overtime in women's soccer action on Wednesday night (Sept. 5) at Storm Lake, Iowa.

NWU (0-1-1) jumped out to an early lead as Shannon Surber scored at the 6:27 mark of the first half on an assist from Ashlee Slade. It was the first gaol of the season for the Prairie Wolves.

BVU tied the match in the 24th minute as Shelby Ripperger found the open net.

Makensie Thaller gave NWU a goal advantage as she scored her first goal of the season during the 39th minute. Less than one minute later the Beavers tied the match again with Tori Carlson scoring a goal.

The match was tied 2-2 heading into the second half. Both teams threatened throughout the second half and both overtime periods but each goalie chalked up their share of nice saves.

Each team finished with 15 shots with freshman Ashlee Slade recording seven of those, including five on goal.

Defensively, Emily Dierks played the entire match and tallied five saves.

NWU is back in action this weekend with a pair of matches at the Luther College Tournament in Decorah, Iowa.
