Central Downs NWU Women in Season Opener

August 31, 2012

Central College scored two goals just under 40 seconds apart to start the second half and that would be the only scoring of the game as Central defeated Nebraska Wesleyan University, 2-0, in the 2012 season opener for the NWU women's soccer team on Friday night (Aug. 31) at Abel Stadium.

Neither team was able to score in the first 45 minutes as the Dutch had six shots but NWU goalkeeper Emily Dierks recorded four saves in the first half. The Prairie Wolves were held without a shot in the first half.

Right out of the gate to start the second half, Central took advantage of two quick counter attacks. Alayna Bailey made a great one on one move to beat the goalkeeper and find a wide open net for the first goal of the match in the minute.

Just 39 seconds later, Molly Potts scored a goal for Central as she found the net on a cross from Bailey that went through the legs of one Central player right to Potts.

NWU tried to mount a comeback late in the second half but couldn't find the open net on a pair of corner kicks.
