The Nebraska Wesleyan women's soccer team ended the 2009 season with a 2-0 shutout victory over Mount Marty College on Saturday night (Oct. 31) at Abel Stadium in Lincoln, Neb., as part of the homecoming festivities on the NWU campus.
The win marked the first Great Plains Athletic Conference victory for NWU who ends the season 5-10-3 overall and 1-8-3 in GPAC play. Mount Marty fell to 2-16, 0-12 in GPAC.
Jamie Essink got the Wolves on the board with a deep kick during the 63rd minute in the second half. NWU added another goal right away as Jessie Light scored in teh 67th minute.
Nebraska Wesleyan controlled the match as they had 23 total shots compared to only two for Mount Marty. The only threat for the Lancers was midway through the second period, but NWU goalie Sara Perdew made a great save.
NWU does not lose any players to graduation as the future looks bright for Head Coach Mike Lynch and the Nebraska Wesleyan women's soccer team.
