October 12, 2011

The Nebraska Wesleyan women's soccer ended their scoreless streak at five matches and picked up a 2-1 road victory on Wednesday afternoon (Oct. 12) at Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

NWU, who had been shutout in the previous five matches, improves to 4-9 on the season.

Shannon Surber scored two goals within two minutes of each other for the Prairie Wolves to give the NWU women the lead. The second goal came off an assist from Elizabeth Becker.

Just as NWU looked to be in command, Coe College scored within two minutes to cut the lead in half.

From there, it was the NWU defense that shut down the Kohawks and helped the Prairie Wolves get the victory. Emily Dierks recorded five saves in goal to help preserve the victory.

NWU had a total of eight shots, compared to just seven for Coe.

Nebraska Wesleyan will next be in action on Saturday (Oct. 15) at Mount Marty College.
