NWU Women Win GPAC Opener Over Northwestern

September 24, 2011

Erin Reeh scored off a corner kick 15 minutes into the first half and that would be the only scoring of the match as Nebraska Wesleyan defeated Northwestern College, 1-0, in the Great Plains Athletic Conference women's soccer opener on homecoming Saturday (Sept. 24) at Abel Stadium in Lincoln.

Nebraska Wesleyan improves to 3-4 overall, 1-0 in GPAC, while Northwestern falls to 2-4-2, 0-1-0.

Reeh scored the goal off a great corner kick from Rachel Granville in the first half.

From there it was the NWU defense that took over the match. Goalkeeper Emily Dierks recorded another shutout and had seven total saves in the match.

Northwestern nearly doubled NWU in total shot attempts, but could not get past Dierks in the goal. The Prairie Wolves managed just seven total shots.

NWU will go for two GPAC wins in a row when they travel to Fremont, Neb., to face Midland University next Wednesday (Sept. 28).
