Three players on the Nebraska Wesleyan University women’s soccer team were named to the 2012 Great Plains Athletic Conference Women’s Soccer All-Conference team that was announced Monday (Nov. 12). Seniors Emily Dierks and Leah Stevens along with freshman Ashlee Slade were all honorable mention All-GPAC selections.
Dierks (Lincoln, Neb.) earns her second straight All-GPAC honorable mention honor. This season she started all 18 games for the Prairie Wolves as the goalkeeper. Dierks was very solid in the goal posting two shutouts with 117 saves, ranking fourth in the GPAC in saves. The Lincoln Southeast H.S. finished her career with 16 career shutouts to rank fourth all-time at NWU. Her 378 career saves rank third all-time at NWU.
Stevens (Columbus, Neb.) receives her first All-Conference honor in her final season. Stevens played 16 games during her senior year as a team captain and defender. She also scored two goals on the year to finish with six career goals.
Slade (Lincoln, Neb.) is All-GPAC in her first season with the Prairie Wolves. She led the team and ranked third in the GPAC with 10 goals on the season. She was also third in the conference averaging 1.22 points per game.
Sara Cushing from Doane College was the GPAC Player-of-the-Year while Jenn Lerner from Hastings is the Defensive Players-of-the-Year. Mark Hiemenz from Hastings is the Coach-of-the-Year.
NWU finished the 2012 season with a 5-10-3 overall record and a 4-4-2 GPAC record under head coach Sean Steele.
