Ashley Johnson's 3-pointer with 0:04 seconds remaining was off and Sadie Struebing pulled down the rebound to secure the 61-58 victory for Nebraska Wesleyan over Dakota Wesleyan in Great Plains Athletic Conference women's basketball action on Saturday afternoon (Jan. 23) at Snyder Arena in Lincoln.

NWU improves to 6-11 overall and 3-7 in GPAC play. The three conference wins are the most for a Prairie Wolves women's basketball team since the 2005-06 season. DWU falls to 7-16 and 3-8 in GPAC.

Nebraska Wesleyan led by as many as 11 points with 8:00 minutes left in the second half before DWU mounted a rally. The Tigers went on a 15-4 run over the next six minutes to tie the game at 58-58 on a 3-pointer by Allison Johnson with 1:46 to play.

The teams exchanged possessions without scoring then on NWU's next possession Janelle Baal found Katy Golden underneath for a layup to get the 60-58 lead with 44 seconds left. DWU had three attempts to tie or take the lead, but all three missed and the ball went out of bounds to NWU.

Sadie Struebing hit 1-2 free throws with 12 seconds left to set up the eventually 3-pointer by Johnson that hit the rim and went off.

Three players reached double figures for NWU led by Struebing who came off the bench to score 16. Mallory Shanahan had 13 points and six rebounds, while Shea Rasmussen added 11 with seven rebounds.

Allison Johnson led DWU with 16 points hitting three 3-pointers. Twin sister Ashley scored 10 with three 3-pointers and a game-high seven assists.

NWU will now go for two in a row on Wednesday when they take on Dana College in Blair, Neb.
