Hastings Spoils Senior Night With 61-52 Win

February 8, 2012

Nebraska Wesleyan was outscored 17-4 over a ten minute period to end the first half and start the second half as Hastings College turned a three-point game into a 14-point lead as the Broncos went on to earn a 61-52 victory in GPAC women's basketball action on Wednesday night (Feb. 8) on Senior Night at Snyder Arena in Lincoln.

NWU was trailing only 26-23 with 3:03 remaining before halftime, but Hastings went on a 7-3 run to end the half and lead 33-26 at halftime.

The Prairie Wolves made just one free throw in the first 7:49 of the second half as the Broncos jumped ahead 43-27.

Nebraska Wesleyan tried to climb back in it late as Shea Rasmussen scored 12 straight points in under two minutes to get within six at 58-52, but that was as close as they could get.

Rasmussen was the only NWU player to reach double figures with 12 points, but she missed her first 12 shots before hitting a 3-pointer with just over 3:00 minutes remaining. She then hit three straight 3-pointers and converted an old-fashioned 3-point play.

NWU shot just 32.1 percent from the field as a team.

Hastings was led by their two centers who both recorded double-doubles. Alicia Statler scored 18 points with 12 rebounds while Laurel Zwiener had 10 points and 11 rebounds off the bench. The Broncos outrebounded NWU 43-34 with 12 offensive rebounds.

NWU will travel to Dakota Wesleyan this Sunday afternoon.
